I spent some time traveling and visiting friends in Europe last summer, and what got me over there was Martin and Sofia’s Båstad Sweden Destination Wedding. This was the third Scandinavian wedding I shot and I wouldn’t be mad if I got to shoot many more 🙂 Even though I only knew a grand total of 3 words in Swedish, I felt welcomed right in by this lovely couple and their wonderful friends/family.
It was an eventful weekend to say the least, like a never ending party (at Hotel Skansen) filled with lots of smiles and glow sticks and pizza (Pepe’s Bodega). The couple got married at St. Mary’s Church (built in the 15th century! SO cool) and had guests line up outside after the ceremony to shower them with rose petals as they exited. Then everyone walked down the hill to a have cocktails above the restaurant (Papa’s) where dinner was served.
Martin and Sofia arrived to the reception in style, driving up in none other than a vintage Bentley. After a grand (5-hour) dinner, everyone moved upstairs for dancing and dessert (mini tiramisu’s). In America, weddings tend to wind down sometime before 1am, and in Sweden the party started about then. It probably took me a week to recover from the craziness, and it was SO worth it. I hope the photos give you a taste of the fun and energy felt throughout this special couple’s wedding!
